We have discussed this before on here and the average of 20 deer per leisure stalker a year has been quoted and this is a figure I would agree with, the pro cullers/deer managers can be into 3 figures a year easily. Although a generalisation I get the impression that your average UK stalker shoots more deer per head than US or European stalkers although there are exceptions. I note that you say you shot 5 deer a year, I am not sure if that is by choice or because the lack of opportunities, it is not un-known to shoot that many here in a day certainly in a week trip depending on species and what you are trying to achieve. Having hunted in NZ with some bow hunters (one who was the ex UK national Champion) this has given me a small insight into the activity. I think if memory serves me correct and I could be wrong, that the use of bows for hunting was outlawed almost accidentally, the laws real purpose was to outlaw the hunting with crossbows, there had been a number of incidents with these weapons used to main and wound animals, not just wild ones, a case involving an attack on some horses seems to come to mind buit it was a long time ago. My son is a keen bow user, compound and American flat bow, he shoots field target. UTGrad welcome to the site, it is good to have you here and I look forward to your input.
